After diligently working alongside Austin Bowden-Kerby, Emma Robens’ time paid off. Her short nature film, The Coral Gardener, was announced the winner of the Panda Award at Wildscreen on October 13th, 2010.
Maritime skills have long been a major part of Fijian culture, particularly Fijian expertise in seafaring vessels. The waqa ni viti is a traditional sailing boat with designs and sizes that vary from the twin hulled drua, to the outrigger single-hulled camakau, to the smaller takia. Use of these traditional Fijian canoes, however, has slowly faded from the locals’ lifestyles.
Pacific Blue Foundation is dedicated to conserving cultural and biological diversity in South Pacific Island Nations and other coastal regions. Pacific Blue Foundation provides basic research, education, encouragement and dissemination of sustainable practices in coastal regions with the ultimate goal of preserving and promoting the biological and cultural diversity of the region.
