2006 Annual Review

Read the complete 2006 Annual Report

Pacific Blue Foundation officially established itself as a charitable trust in Fiji in 2006, which allowed the organization to launch studies that would determine the needs of the local villages.

Research Biologists, Dr. David Kline and Dr. Greg Mitchell, surveyed Cakau Nisici Island (Bird Island), which is located in the Beqa Lagoon. Their research allowed them to present evaluations and recommendations that would promote the conservation of the bird retreat.

Dr. Mark Calamia, a cultural anthropologist, met with the villagers to get a better understanding of the needs and concerns of the locals. His preliminary assessment helped determine the best locations for a Marine Protected Area, ways to sustain traditional fishing waters, and the importance of preserving local culture.
