Our Goals For Education

Work in Fiji

Fiji’s pristine surroundings and remarkable beauty go hand in hand with its being a less industrialized nation. Trade, fishing, and craftsmanship are important economic resources that maintain the island’s culture and ecology.

Education is significant, as it can directly impact village life.

We want to assist villagers so that they can gain skills most suitable for them, allowing them to apply their knowledge towards local needs, thereby contributing to the community. Some villagers go to universities and are encouraged to return to assist their village for several months, while others remain in the village to learn pertinent trades or practical skills that meet provincial guidelines and regulations.

Efforts to Promote Education

PBF encourages and funds tertiary studies

Pacific Blue Foundation encourages education, recognizing that the young minds of today will build the communities of tomorrow. PBF sponsors students returning to school for tertiary studies, not only by providing funds for half of their student fees and expenses, but also by loaning funds to the community, so the community can be involved and take pride in the education of their youth.

PBF works to strengthen island education

Children often leave small islands just to gain a secondary education. As more families and youth relocate, island populations dwindle and traditions are left behind. Pacific Blue Foundation wants to strengthen island education and works to fortify existing educational structures by funding training for kindergarten teachers and community representatives. PBF is currently working to foster programs that can deliver secondary education to children in smaller island communities.

PBF sponsors relevant training for island communities

Small islands rely on each other and their available local resources. Pacific Blue Foundation funds education and training that help communities progress in a way that preserves their natural resources. Sustainable methods are taught to promote viable growth, whether members of the community are being trained to protect local fisheries as fish wardens, or taught to install and properly maintain simple solar panels.
